SEMI-DRY “CLOS BAGLIN” DOMAINE DENIS MEUNIER
15,00 € incl. VAT
The history of the house dates back to 1927, when Denis’ grandfather acquired his first plots of vines. Denis’ father and uncle ran the estate for almost forty years, until 2012, when Denis took over, thus making his dream come true. With his partner, Estelle, he manages the estate with the help, in the vineyards, of his father and uncle, as well as a handful of seasonal workers. “Respect for the terroir has always been a value here, even in my father’s time,” explains Denis. “Today, it is mainly the equipment that has evolved. My investments have mainly focused on the quality of the vines and the wine. The estate is located in the prestigious Vouvray appellation. Part of the Paris basin, the soils rest on a fossilized marine base. The bedrock, in which the region’s historic cellars are dug, is called tufa. The upper layers are composed of siliceous clay, limestone, gravel and marl. The climate is marked by the tension between moderate maritime influences and more extreme continental influences. The region’s winemakers are experiencing the devastating effects of climate change, with many recent vintages suffering from extreme weather, hail, and various pathogenic pressures. However, when all goes well and thanks to careful vineyard management, the Chenin Blanc from this region has a mouthwatering acidity as well as a mesmerizing richness and depth.
