Appellation: Côte-Roannaise
The Côte-Roannaise appellation is part of the Loire Valley region of France, which is home to Domaine Vial and its 7 cuvées. Spread over 70,000 hectares, the region produces 4 million hectolitres of wine a year.
Domaine Vial is an estate located in the Loire Valley region of France, producing 7 wines. Born into winegrowing families on both their father’s and mother’s sides, Philippe and Jean-Marie Vial have inherited the pleasure of wine and vine growing. So it was a natural step for them to take over the estate, which has been in the family for several generations and has evolved over the years. The two brothers now cultivate 10 hectares of vines in the Côte Roannaise (9 hectares of Gamay, and 1 hectare of Chardonnay and Viogner, white grape varieties). Since taking over the estate some twenty years ago, Philippe and Jean-Marie have constantly restructured and modernised their vineyard. Notably by selecting and grouping vineyard blocks by terroir, in particular by restarting and replanting vines on the prestigious Bouthéran hillside, with its exceptional exposure and terroir. But also with the construction in 2003 of a vat room for vinification and ageing of the wines, and the renewal of their vinification equipment (vat, cooling unit, destemmer, press, harvest lift, etc.). With the restructuring of the vineyard parcels now complete, no major changes are planned for the coming years, apart from the replanting of a parcel of vines on the Bouthéran hillside in AOC Côte Roannaise, and the extension of the parcel planted with Viogner classified as Vin de Pays d’Urfé. An extension to the winery is also planned, with the construction of a tasting cellar to welcome customers in even more comfortable conditions.
