SAUMUR CHENIN BLANC DOMAINE DU VAL BRUN ERIC CHARREAU

Situated on a hillside overlooking the Loire in the Saumur region, the 30-hectare Val Brun estate has belonged to the Charruau family since 1722. Passed through the hands of different generations, the estate has evolved over the years and vinification techniques have been improved. The vineyard’s terroir is characterised by a certain richness of clay and limestone in the soil and the presence of tufa in the subsoil, producing supple wines full of charm.

Vineyard. DPO Saumur Blanc, commune of Parnay, vines 10 to 40 years old on alluvial terraces and hillside overlooking the Loire. Grape variety. 100% Chenin.
Terroir. Massal selection on clay-limestone soils, Turonian chalk subsoil.
Vine. Certified organic farming. Natural grassing every other row to encourage biodiversity. Surface cultivation and stripping to respect and aerate the soil. Plant cover depending on the vintage. Guyot pruning. Hand-picked in crates.
Winemaking. Pneumatic pressing, natural degrees of 12.9°. Alcoholic fermentation in 4-5 year-old barrels (600 liters).
Aged on fine lees for 10-12 months. Low temperatures in the estate’s underground cellars to preserve primary aromas.
Tasting. Bright, clear, straw-yellow color with golden highlights. Intense nose with floral notes and fruity scents. Straightforward attack, freshness and good acidity. Long-lasting lemon and ripe quince aromas with floral notes of lime blossom.
